In store flute and improvisation clinic and flute sale featuring Bill McBirnie April 13 at 12:00 p.m.

Take this rare opportunity to see and hear Bill McBirnie deliver a clinic about playing the flute in non-classical situations.  Bill will also be addressing the process of learning how to improvise, in general.

This event will be of relevance not only to flutists, but also to doublers, horn players – in fact, any instrumentalist – at any level – interested in the art and craft of improvisation.

Bill is known for his outstanding technique on the instrument.  However, he is also recognized as a superb improviser (notably in the bebop, swing and Latin idioms) as demonstrated by his numerous recordings both as a leader and as a sideman with the likes of Junior Mance, Irakere, Memo Acevedo and Emilie-Claire Barlow.

Needless to say, Bill performs and records extensively with Toronto’s fnest musicians and is a longstanding, charter member of Bernie Senensky’s, “Moe Koffman Tribute Band”.

Indeed, the legendary classical flutist, Sir James Galway, had this to say about Bill’s fute work:

“Dear Maestro McBirnie,…You just blew me away.  Great, great playing… Innovative…I have never heard anyone play like this…Great technique and music making…Bill, when you read this, I have to take my hat off to you. This is great playing by any standard.”

– Sir James Galway

A wide range of flutes and accessories will be on sale for this event.  See store for more details.

[ NOTE:  In the evening, Bill will also be performing with Ottawa’s own Rene Lavoie (reeds), Tim Bedner (guitar) and Rene Fortier (percussion)at 7:30 p.m., at GigSpace, 953 Gladstone Ave. here in Ottawa.  Tickets are available at GigSpace via PayPal or at (613) 729-0693. ]
